Alma (formerly Rantoul) is a village located in Marion County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 386.
Geography
Alma is located at 38°43'18" North, 88°54'43" West (38.721589, -88.911986).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.8 km˛ (1.1 mi˛). 2.8 km˛ (1.1 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 386 people, 167 households, and 101 families residing in the village. The population density was 138.0/km˛ (357.5/mi˛). There were 179 housing units at an average density of 64.0/km˛ (165.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village was 99.22% White, 0.26% African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 167 households out of which 29.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.5% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.5% were non-families. 37.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the village the population was spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.4% who were 65 years of age or older.
