Alexis is a village located in Mercer County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 863.

Geography

Alexis is located at 41°3'48" North, 90°33'18" West (41.063433, -90.554951).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 863 people, 361 households, and 246 families residing in the village. The population density was 680.0/km² (1,778.6/mi²). There were 383 housing units at an average density of 301.8/km² (789.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.65% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 0.23% from two or more races. 2.20% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 361 households out of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.7% were married couples living together, 6.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.6% were non-families. 28.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.94.

In the village the population was spread out with 24.3% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 88.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.7 males.
